A Midsummers Night Scream

Last night I attended the SPOOKY MOVIE FILM FESTIVAL: MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S SCREAM

A local film fextival which showcased several short films and I got to meet and talk to LLoyd Kaufman head of Troma studios, Count Gore De Vol host of Creature Feature, & Karlos Borloff host of Monster Madhouse.

Lloyd was premiering Poultrygeist - Night of the Chicken Dead at the local theater.

Troma movies are not for the faint of heart or stomach, and a good crowd can really make a film, and last night the crowd was into it and I really enjoyed the film, it is a very , very gross out movie. But a good time was had by all.

Batman never paid my bills

Over the weekend I watched the new batman film, “The Dark Knight”. Which unless you live in a cave you know that it made a crap load of money. I don’t feel like writing a review, because there is nothing I can tell you that you won’t read elsewhere. Roger Ebert wrote a good review on the film that I whole heartedly agree with. I loved the film, and appreciated the fact that they did’nt cater the film to the toy industry. But that isn’t the reason I am writing this post.

I was looking at the reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.com where the new film recieved 94% fresh. As I perused thru the reviews I noticed that all off the positive reviews had 1 or 2 comments, but the few negative reviews of films had hundreds of angry comments mostly from angered fanboys. Being a fanboy myself I disagreed with the reviewers opinion, but I did’nt feel the need to flame them on it.

It is funny how much attention something or someone receives when they say something controversial. No one likes negative criticism, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think it is funny, that some people get so upset when something negative is said about something they are a fan of. I am a fan of the batman comics and some of the films, but I dont see any reason to defend them. Batman has never paid my rent, gave me money, or done anything that merits my loyaly, but I on the other hand have bought the comics, & graphic novels, and paid to see the films. DC comics created a product and I purchased and enjoyed it, a fair transaction. So where I might disagree with a negative opinion, Batman is on his own to defend himself, thats what the Justice League is for.

Back from Wizard World Chicago

Well I am back from the show and I had a blast. I did alot of commisions this weekend and sold some of the books. I shared my table with my buddy Adam Talley who I met at the Pittsburgh Con.
Here are some photos from the show, more info soon.

Here are some firefly commisions I did.

Don’t remember their name, but they were on the Amazing Race.

After the first day at the con, when we got back to the room, we caught George Carlin’s last stand-up. It was a good show, but sad

Good old hulk. They had a contest where you could take this home with you. Where the hell would you put it, and what would you do with it?

Here are a couple of firefly fans. I was sad that were werent more browncoats at the con.

My invincible commision

Adam Talley of Idiothead.com. Adam was my drinking buddy for the weekend.

I loved this costume, this was the friendliest werewolf I have met

My favorite commision of the weekend, Zombified Cap.

This is Lora Innes of The Dreamer, I met her at the Pittsburgh show. Her comic is really good, if you get a chance go check it out. I got to talk to her and her husband Mike, they are a very nice couple. I picked up a copy of the latest issue. Good stuff.

Goodbye George

One of the true greats passed away yesterday. George was one of my idols thoughout my life and he will be missed.

I was in Artist’s alley a few weeks ago, here are a few pics from the trip. I had a good time, met some good contacts and some fellow firefly fans.

A firefly cast commision I did. This was a fun piece to do.

Pittsburgh Comicon - Photos

I thought I should post some of the photos I took at Pittsburgh comicon. I had a table in Artists Alley next to the great Tim Fischer over at Comix-Mill. I met alot of cool people like Adam Talley of Idiothead fame.
The organizers of the con treated me very well and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. I would definetly go back next year.

Blast from the Past!

I have started posting strips from the original Freak Central webcomic that ran in 2003-2004. I will try to do this once a week. Check the archives for anything before 2008. Some of these strips have never been published. For example I have even posted a Freak Central revamp that I decided against.
